Copy-and-paste page moves

[edit]

Hello, Guru coolguy. Concerning your contribution, Hollywood of the east, a page move cannot be done by simply copying and pasting the contents of a page into a new location, as such a process does not transfer the page's edit history and therefore violates the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL). As a violation of the page move process, Hollywood of the east needs to be temporarily deleted under the speedy deletion criteria so that the page you intended to move may be properly moved in a way that will preserve its edit history. Hollywood of the east has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message. If not, please refrain from editing either the page you intended to move or Hollywood of the east until the latter has been deleted according to Wikipedia's speedy criterion G6 (non-controversial housekeeping).

If you did not intend to make a page move, then please insert the {{hangon}} tag right below the {{db-copypaste}} tag in Hollywood of the east and state your intentions on Talk:Hollywood of the east. An administrator will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do. Thank you for your contributions.  Blanchardb -MeMyEarsMyMouth- timed 11:59, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reliable sources and NPOV

[edit]

Regarding your edit to Tamil cinema. You need to provide a reliable third party source to support your claims. Wikipedia is not a reliable source. You also need a source to support your claim of "excelent talent". See WP:NPOV. -- The Red Pen of Doom 11:20, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Hollywood of the east. Since you had some involvement with the Hollywood of the east redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion (if you have not already done so). Redtigerxyz Talk 13:52, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of File:Dhyanalinga ver2.jpg

[edit]

A tag has been placed on File:Dhyanalinga ver2.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement [of http://www.dhyanalinga.org/images/dhyanalinga_ver2.jpg]. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Guru, Thanks for your interest in the Chennai article. I have responded to your queries in Talk:Chennai. Please be aware that we have many policies and guidelines here, WP:Verifiability is just one of them. It can be a fun place once you are familiar with all of them. Speedy deletion of The 18 Siddhas

[edit]

A tag has been placed on The 18 Siddhas requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. ShakingSpirittalk 12:25, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. The basics of this article already exist, and I've redirected your article to point to it. Based on its layout, it looks like each of the Siddhas should get their own article, and a couple already have articles created about them. Having had a quick peek at them, I'd suggest you try to use them as a basis for any new articles you create, as it gives you a basis for the layout and content of the article. CultureDrone (talk) 12:32, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Have a look towards the end of the article (just before 'Powers of siddhars') - you'll see that there is already a section about the 18 - you're basically already duplicating information that is already in Wikipedia. CultureDrone (talk) 13:02, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've redirected your article again to the section in question - as you can see, some articles already exist. The only difference you may have is the alternative spellings of some of the names. CultureDrone (talk) 13:06, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I speedy deleted this page because it is an implausible reference to Chennai. If you feel that the reference is plausible, I suggest you build consensus on both South India as well as Chennai pages before re-creating the redirect. Regards. --RegentsPark (My narrowboat) 17:23, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:Aadhipatthar painting.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Aadhipatthar painting.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 16:13, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Some tips for you!

[edit]

Hi Guru coolguy, I thought I'd drop a few notes on your talk page with some help on writing articles :o)

First of all, it may be best for you to do a bit of reading, starting with the Wikipedia manual of style, which will give you a lot of information about how Wikipedia prefers its articles to be written. It's not as hard to follow as it might look; quite a bit of the information there probably won't be vital for you at first.

Second, I recommend you make a user sandbox - which is just an area you can use to practise in, and to make notes in, and to get things ready in. If you click this red link: user:Guru coolguy/Sandbox, that will let you create that page (it gives you an edit window to start work in). Anything, anywhere, on the help and information pages which gives you an example, try it out in your sandbox until you're familiar with it.

For your article, the next thing you want to do is start collecting as much information as you can about it. Google searches (particularly in Books and Scholar) will be your best friend for this! Once you've found the information, the next most important thing is to start writing up each fact in your own words (very important, this), and make a note at the same time of exactly where that information came from. Build in the references as you go along; I'm going to copy in, down below this, a whole heap of help on doing references, which was produced by one of our best teachers (Chzz).

Here's another place that you'll find incredibly useful - citation templates which you can copy and paste into your sandbox, between <ref></ref> tags; you just fill in the blanks from your sources into the template, and you'll end up with nicely formatted inline citations :o) It all helps. Remember to add a references section to your sandbox (make a new line, and put ==References== on it, and type {{reflist}} on the next line, so that you can see how your citations look as you do them. Remember to save your page often! You don't want to lose your work.

Hopefully this will give you a good start and make life easier for you. Pesky (talkstalk!) 06:53, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

How references work

[edit]

Simple references

[edit]

These require two parts;

a)
Chzz is 98 years old.<ref> "The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009. </ref>

He likes tea. <ref> [http://www.nicecupofteaandasitdown.com Tea website] </ref>
b) A section called "References" with the special code "{{reflist}}";
== References ==
{{reflist}}

(an existing article is likely to already have one of these sections)

To see the result of that, please look at user:chzz/demo/simpleref. Edit it, and check the code; perhaps make a test page of your own, such as user:Guru coolguy/reftest and try it out.

Named references

[edit]
Chzz was born in 1837. <ref name=MyBook>
"The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009.
</ref>

Chzz lives in Footown.<ref name=MyBook/>

Note that the second usage has a / (and no closing ref tag). This needs a reference section as above; please see user:chzz/demo/namedref to see the result.

Citation templates

[edit]

You can put anything you like between <ref> and </ref>, but using citation templates makes for a neat, consistent look;

Chzz has 37 Olympic medals. <ref> {{Citation
 | last = Smith
 | first = John
 | title = Olympic medal winners of the 20th century
 | publication-date = 2001
 | publisher = [[Cambridge University Press]]
 | page = 125
 | isbn = 0-521-37169-4
}}
</ref>

Please see user:chzz/demo/citeref to see the result.

For more help and tips on that subject, see user:chzz/help/refs.

Something to make your life easier!

[edit]

Hi there Guru coolguy! I've just come across one of your articles, and noticed that you had to create titles for your url links manually, or were using bare urls as references.

You might want to consider using this tool - it makes your life a whole heap easier, by filling in complete citation templates for your links. All you do is install the script on Special:MyPage/common.js, or or Special:MyPage/vector.js, then paste the bare url (without [...] brackets) between your <ref></ref> tabs, and you'll find a clickable link called Reflinks in your toolbox section of the page (probably in the left hand column). Then click that tool. It does all the rest of the work (provided that you remember to save the page! It doesn't work for everything (particularly often not for pdf documents), but for pretty much anything ending in "htm" or "html" (and with a title) it will do really, really well. Happy editing! Ra.One

[edit]

I can understand what you are trying to say. BUT, the reviews at the beginning are ALWAYS POSITIVE. Negative reviews come at the last. Don't you see? Please stop bringing back the same thing into the reviews section, otherwise you will be treated as a vandal and blocked from editing the article. You are currently engaged in an edit war, and I think you should stop. There's no such thing as "top rated critics" - it is your POV. Notw that another another revert may leadto your block. ShahidTalk2me 10:11, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Guru, I am simply baffled by your sheer audacity and attitude. Your biased nature disgusts me to the core. Never have I had to deal with anyone as sick and stubborn as you. You called us biased, when in reality you will become the laughing stock as everyone here knows who is the biased one. You declared Ra.One a flop, when the movie barely released. You called the product failed without watching it. YOU ARE BIASED, and that's the sad truth. It may hurt, you will disagree (vehemently) but your opinion carries little weight in my eyes. AnkitBhattTalk to me!!LifEnjoy 11:15, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Chill Ankit. Hey Guru coolguy, Wikipedia is a group effort. Just went thru few of you edits, which may be right as per your point of view, but Wikipedia is all about neutral point of view. You are right, Rediff.com, Yahoo! are popular reviewer, but when it comes to films, Bollywood Hungama comes ahead[may be after NDTV or The Times of India]. They are expert in Hindi film industry. Be sure next time to discuss ahead on the talk page. -- Karthik Nadar (talk) 17:58, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Get your facts right

[edit]

I did not undo your edit, but let me check if it's right. ShahidTalk2me 12:04, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits start getting annoying and extremely biased, and this is not going to be taken lightly. I do not understand why this is the conduct we see from you, but then, check the sources before making such edits. Both the sources which are cited (boxofficeindia and Economic Times) say it had an opening all over *India*. Please do not misrepresent information. Want me to quote it? Fine, "Ra.One Takes HISTORIC Opening All Over India". Now if you have a problem with that then I can do nothing about that to help you. ShahidTalk2me 12:13, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
@ Guru coolguy- Dude, you might be anti-SRK but please play nice. A consensus for keep "mixed to positive" has been reached, which I think is totally fair. Regards, Scieberking (talk) 14:34, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I highly recommend you to revert your two edits yourself, before I file a full report on your edit warring and destructive editing. ShahidTalk2me 14:36, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

@ Guru coolguy- Please add neutrality tag to the specific section if you feel the need, not to the article. Thanks. Scieberking (talk) 14:41, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

RE:Ra.One

[edit]

The TOI source is an important one and maybe, the appropriate section to add this "Robot vs. Ra.One" info is "Controversy" section, not the lead. Also, you can take it to talk page forRa.One or content dispute noticeboard if you want. Secondly, at least for the opening day, Ra.One was a huge hit, and second only to Bodyguard. You'll have to wait for at least two weeks for the film's final verdict. Thirdly, I'm not very much active on articles related to Indian cinema anymore. Thanks. Scieberking (talk) 15:30, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

DRN and your posts

[edit]

Guru coolguy, please try to keep your posts on the DRN board focused on the particular dispute. Bringing in the south vs north film industries isn't helpful to resolving the dispute. For one, it can cause tension based on regional pride as some editors may view it as an insult to their area. Also, it's not related to how Ra. One should be portrayed in the critical review section. The DRN discussion is getting fairly long and it would help all of us to keep things focused so you can get back to working on the article. Thank you though for remaining calm despite some of the comments that crossed the line. Some of your posts also went too far ("Calm down you emotional rat. Stop sobbing first", "why should i bother about a beggar who travels to Chennai every day in the fear of losing all his money in this flop?"). Focus only on the edits, not the editor. Please don't do that anymore. Your recent posts have been good, keep it up!

You've mentioned a couple of times that you don't consider some of the reviews credible. Have you asked on the reliable sources noticeboard or to the [[WP:FILM] project's talk page about them? Ravensfire (talk) 16:05, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
